In 2011, Adam Tabeling earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude in classics and anthropology from the University of Colorado, after which he moved to Maryland to undertake a Ph.D. in Adolescent Social Studies Education from Columbia University in New York City. He has written music for movies and advertising, including campaigns for Cracker Barrel, Jeep, and others. John is also a working songwriter and self-taught musician, with over 7.8 million streams on Spotify of his songs, and has performed with artists such as Ingrid Michaelson, Damien Rice, John Oates, Matt Simons, and more. He has presented on novel approaches to assessment, curriculum, and argument writing at the EL Education National Conference (Master Class), the New York City Writer's Project, the Performance Assessment Consortium Conference, and at Columbia University Teachers College (Teaching in Trying Times Conference). John was a recipient of the prestigious Fund For Teachers Education Grant, in which he studied and documented the decolonization efforts of American Indians in the Dakotas through fieldwork, interviews, and document research. Prior to joining Mirman, John has served as a High School History Teacher, Social Studies Department Chair, and Academic Team Lead at Brooklyn Collaborative Studies in Brooklyn, New York. John Schmitt is History Teacher to Fifth Grade and Upper School 3, now in his second year.
